You will still probably take around an hour for each set of homework, but your work might take longer if it is more involved, so plan on 1-2 hours per set, with most assignments being done in 60-75 minutes. Click on the Related Question for more information.

The rule of thumb for homework is teachers assign 10 minutes of homework per grade per day. So a first grader in 180 days would have 1800 minutes of homework.

Many, though the exact number is not available. That is a very good reason for students to do their very best at getting their homework done. Sacrificing trees in order for students to learn is justifiable. What is not justifiable is students wasting that paper by not doing their homework or not doing their very best on it.
The amount of homework a student should have depends on the grade they are in and other factors. Grades K-2 should not have very much homework. Starting in grade 3, students can have more homework, but not so much that they get discouraged or feel a lot of pressure. As students get older, they could have more homework, but again, not so much that they are overwhelmed or have to spend the entire evening doing homework. Middle school and high school students should be able to handle whatever homework they are given as long as it is not so much that they honestly cannot get it done if they are trying to do it.
Television viewing negatively impacts students because it keeps students from doing their homework. There are many students that fight with their parents to watch television instead of doing other things. Another negative impact on students is that they lack physical activity.
I would use a histogram.
They are not looking for someone to do their homework for them. They are researching for information to include in their homework. Part of homework includes doing research. Looking on the internet or asking questions here is absolutely no different to looking things up in a book from the library. Teachers fully encourage students to research.

I believe that homework should be given to students. Although many people hate having homework (I do too), it is a great way for students to review the day's work and understand it to a deeper level. I think that there should be homework, but only about 30 mins- 1 hr of homework, and definitely no projects
