The 4.0 liter EFI ( over head valve design ) has ( 1 ) timing chain and the
4.0 liter SOHC engine has ( 3 ) timing chains , 2 at the front and 1 at the back
to the passenger side cylinder head
The Ford 4.6 liter V8 engine has ( 1 timing chain to each cylinder head , so there are 2 timing chains )
The Ford 4.0 liter OHV , V6 engine has ( 1 ) timing chain ( but the 1998 Ford Explorer XLT model , if it has the 4.0 liter V6 engine , would have the SOHC engine which has ( 3 ) timing chains )
Makes me wonder if this is a common problem on Ford Exploders. My '02 Explorer V-8 with 46,000 miles needs a timing chain too. My mechanic is telling me it is a 6.5 hour job. If parts have dropped into the oil pan, add 3.1 hours.
( 3 timing chains ) on the 4.0 liter SOHC Ford engine . 2 are at the front of the engine and 1 timing chain at the back of the engine to the passenger side cylinder head
In a 2006 Ford Explorer : The 4.0 litre Single Over Head Cam , V6 engine has ( 3 timing CHAINS ) * at the FRONT of the engine there is a timing CHAIN from the crankshaft to the jackshaft , also at the front of the engine is a CHAIN from the jackshaft to the drivers side engine cylinder head * at the REAR of the engine , there is a CHAIN from the jackshaft to the passenger side engine cylinder head The 4.6 litre V8 engine has ( 1 timing CHAIN to each cylinder head at the FRONT of the engine , so there are 2 timing CHAINS
The Ford 4.0 liter SOHC - V6 engine has ( 3 ) timing CHAINS
The 4.0 liter OHV ( pushrod design ) has ( 1 timing chain ) The 4.0 liter SOHC has ( 3 timing chains ) The 5.0 liter V8 engine has ( 1 timing chain )
There are ( 3 ) timing chains on the Ford 4.0 liter SOHC , V6 engine There is a main timing chain that goes from the crankshaft to the jackshaft ( which is in the same location as the camshaft on the 4.0 liter OHV engine ) at the front of the engine , a chain that goes from the jackshaft to the drivers side cylinder head at the front of the engine , and a chain from the jackshaft to the passenger side cylinder head at the rear of the engine
The 4.0 liter SOHC - V6 engine has ( 3 ) timing chains , a main chain from the crankshaft to the jackshaft and a chain from the jackshaft to the drivers side cylinder head at the front of the engine . There is a 3rd chain from the jackshaft to the passenger side cylinder head at the back of the engine
Three. One on the jack-shaft, the "main chain" in front. One for the left head on front, and one for the right head in the back.
The Ford 4.0 L - SOHC - V6 engine has ( 3 ) timing chains At the front of the engine is a main timing chain from the crankshaft to a jackshaft. ( The jackshaft is where the camshaft is on the older 4.0 L - OHV - V6 engine ) and a 2nd chain from the jackshaft to the drivers side cylinder head The 3rd chain is at the back of the engine and goes from the jackshaft to the passenger side cylinder head
On the 2000 Ford Expedition 4.6 ( and 5.4 ) There are ( 2 timing chains ) * 1 timing chain to each cylinder head
