First went officially online in 1969, it was gradually replaced by what's now known as the internet by the 1980's. Some remnants of ARPANET were known to have remained in service until 1989.
precursor to the Internet, ARPANET was a large wide-area networkcreated by the United States Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (ARPA). Established in 1969, ARPANET served as a testbed for newnetworking technologies, linking many universities and research centers. The first two nodes that formed the ARPANET were UCLA and the Stanford Research Institute, followed shortly thereafter by the University of Utah.
I believe it was called Arpanet (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network). The original idea was to connect a bunch of computers on different universities, so they could share research.
College of last chance
No branch of government created the internet. It was created mainly in the colleges. A researcher at MIT in came up with the idea in 1962. By 1969 4 major universities had connected their computers. Charley Kline at UCLA in 1969 sent the first packets on the ARPANET as he tried to connect to Stanford . The system crashed as he the reached LOGIN.
ARPANET
ARPANET was developed
No. The first electronic computers were developed during WWII in the 1940s. ARPAnet, widely considered to be the precursor to the internet, didnt come online until 1969.
The first four universities connected to ARPANET were Stanford University, the University of California-Los Angeles, the University of California-Santa Barbara, and the University of Utah.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Wrong, Stanford University was not one of the original four ARPANET sites (this is a common misconception). It was a private company called Stanford Research Institute in Menlo Park, California. Stanford Research Institute has never had any connection to Stanford University.
Yes ARPANET is the predecessor to our Internet today. What we all are able to use was first done as ARPANET. It was made by american defense and research team to transfer messages.
