Energy output is not measured in volts. A volt is the difference in potential between two points. Energy output is measured in joules (the work done to an object when a force of one newton acts on that object in the direction of its motion through a distance of one metre (1 newton metre or N. · m)). The total energy output of supernovas is not consistent between examples. The Crab Nebula, for instance, produced ten to the 44th power joules. This is as much energy our sun is expected to put out in its entire lifetime, about 10 billion years.
