Only about 10 months.
From 1804 until 1815 minus his short stay on Elba.
He escaped from Elba and returned to France where he returned to power.
From 1804 nto 1815 except for his brief stay at Elba.
Napoleon's time in exile should not be considered as time incarcerated. It is true that there were restrictions placed on discretionary movement but that was primarily because he had proven with his parole on Elba that he was a flight risk. On Elba he retained his title as Emperor and was given complete domininion over the 12,000 residents. On St. Helena he was denied the privilege of rank or title but he had his loyal retainers, servants and retinue. At Longwood House at least, he was treated as a head of state and was treated with great courtesy. His complaints about his treatment were regular and petty, but they were acknowledged and great care was exercised so that he could not consider his stay as abusive.

It was not Napoleon Bonaparte that lived in England, although he did live on the Island of St. Helena which belonged to the United Kingdom.
His stay on Elba was quite generous, he retained his titile of Emperor and the Island was his to control. Because he had broken his parole when he escaped from Elba, the restrictions placed on his second exile were very limited. He was no longer addressed as Emperor and the size of his personal retinue was much smaller. He was not treated as a prisoner, but as a guest and former head of state.
