There is a place called Denarau which is a island connected to the mainland and it has houses which are very expensive but gorgeous, great shopping centers not big though, and lots of 6 star resorts,a 40 minute drive from the town Nadi which is also popular to live at but not as pretty.There is also a place called Pacific Harbour which is the other way.It is nice but smaller, it is much cheaper as well.
Native fijians live in thatched bure or houses made of straws and bamboo sticks. With today technology and frequent natural disaster around the south pacific, people tend to build their houses in blocks and cement to last long.
