The exact answer is 141.75 grams equal to 5 ounces. (That is rounded to the nearest hundredth of a gram, which is close enough for most work.) If you are wanting to know this for the Cub Scout Pinewood Derby, then the rule is written as 5 ounces max. Some dens may weight in grams, to maximize the weight allowed. Typically this is done with a postage meter which can only weight to the gram. So they will say 141 max. It is a good idea to build your car at 142 (just in case the scale is off in your favor) but be prepared to shave a gram or two off, if the scale are off in the other direction.

If your den / pack weights using ounces, then maybe you can build at 150 grams and still slip in under the accuracy of the scale.
