My Vet told me 10mg per 22 lbs. For smaller dogs, the childrens dose of 5 mg is fine (and grape flavored!!)
THIS IS TERRIBLE ADVICE ABOVE!! While 10mg per 22lbs is fine for such antihistamines such as diphenhydramine AKA BENADRYL is probably accurate, 10mg per 22lbs of say Loratadine AKA CLARITIN, is the human equivalent of 3x the daily adult dose. This can cause serious liver and kidney damage to your pet after just a few days of dosing. Don't listen to sites like this, because idiots like this person post information that can end up being harmful and expensive. Spend a little money and go pay some one who is trained, IE. your Vet
Yes, too much Claritin (loratadine) can be harmful to dogs and potentially lead to serious health issues. While it is generally considered safe in appropriate doses for dogs, an overdose can cause symptoms such as lethargy, vomiting, and increased heart rate. If you suspect your dog has ingested too much Claritin, it’s crucial to contact a veterinarian immediately for guidance and possible treatment. Always consult your vet before giving any medication to your pet.
Balls
Surprisingly enough, the answer is yes. Claritin is safe to use for dogs to relieve itching. Claritin-D should not be used on dogs, as it contains pseudoephedrine. Also, Claritin contains propylene glycol and should not be used on cats. Dosage for dogs is about half of the recommended human dosage for medium sized dogs, and about a quarter dosage for small dogs.
I'm not a vet, but I would say don't EVER give a dog any medication of any kind without clearing it with a vet. Dogs do NOT have human physiology. If for no other reason than the dosage is too difficult to calculate based on the dog weight in kilograms, etc., leave the prescriptions and medication choices to the veterinarian. If given too much, it can cause all kinds of problems for your dog, especially depending on the size of the dog. Contact a vet. Cats and dogs can and do take claritin for allergies but it is still best to talk to a vet first to determine the best dosage for your pet and possible interactions your vet might know about concerning your particular animal.
Yes it helps but it is pretty expensive so you can get the generic one as a prescription from a doctor for cheaper. I think claritin charges to much
It is not recommended to give Claritin (loratadine) or any other medication to your dog without consulting a veterinarian first. While loratadine is an antihistamine used in humans for allergies, dogs metabolize medications differently, and dosages can vary. A veterinarian can provide guidance on safe and effective treatments for your dog's specific needs. Always prioritize professional advice over self-medication for pets.
