You can bring up to 3 liters (0.793 gallons or 101.44 ounces) of Alcoholic Beverages such as beer or liquor and 6 liters (1.586 gallons or 202.88 ounces) of wine without paying taxes. Greater quantities require you to pay 65% of the assessed value of the beverage.

One liter (33.8 fl. oz.) of alcoholic beverages may be included in your exemption if:

  • You are 21 years old.
  • It is for your own use or as a gift.
  • It does not violate the laws of the state in which you arrive.

You can bring more than one liter in to the US but you are supposed to pay taxes on anything over 1 liter.

You can bring up to 1 liter (33.81 oz or 0.264 gal) of alcoholic beverages, duty-free. Some ports of entry allow for more, and in any case you have to pay federal taxes.

According to the official customs form, "Passengers older than 18 years of age can import a maximum of up to 20 packs of cigarettes, 25 cigars, or 200 grams of tobacco, up to three liters of alcoholic beverages."

You can bring up to five liters (1.3 gallons or 169 ounces) of 24-70% alcohol contents in your checked baggage. Most wines, beer and tequila from Mexico are in the 25-40% alcohol content.

They would usually allow up to a 24 case per person and you'd pay about 4 dollars in taxes (a dollar in taxes per 6 pack or bottle of liquor). From personal experience.
