Can cows eat themselves to death?

Depends on how hungry and malnourished they are. If some cows broke into a feed house where grain was stored and they gorged themselves on the grain, they could very much die of bloat and/or acute acidosis.

How much beef nut to feed cow?

None. Cows eat grass, hay, silage and grain, not any sort of animal meat like "beef nut."

What is grain for cattle?

Depends on what the grain is: field corn, field peas, feed barley, wheat, etc. If you're just referring to the word "grain" there really is no special name for such grain that is fed to livestock like cattle...just "grain."

When do cows eat?

Normally during daylight hours. Cows eat as soon as they get fed. Cattle can be fed a controlled ration, meaning they get only so much feed and no more; or on a free choice basis, meaning they get to eat all they want. A controlled ration would be used for grain or high nutrition feed. If they cattle ate all they wanted of it they could get sick (called foundering), or get too fat, and the expensive feed would go to waste. Controlled rations are usually fed once or twice a day. Free choice feed is usually grass or hay. The cows get full before they overeat with these less dense feeds. Often cows are fed hay or grass free choice and a controlled amount of grain. They can be fed grain free choice if it is blended with a low calorie filler such as ground corncobs or straw. Some other things to keep in mind: Cows need to spend lots of time chewing their cud. Cows eat much more when it is cold out--their digestive process actually keeps them warm.

Can cows eat junk food?

They could, as a high-concentrate source of feed, but it should not be fed as a staple diet, since it is hard on their digestive systems the same way eating too much grain causes bloat and acidosis.

Cows eating bread?

Yes. Bread is a cheap way of putting weight on young cattle and lactating cows when grain is too expensive to buy and feed. Bread should be fed in moderation, not ad libitum because it is a "hot feed" just like grain, and can cause bloating if too much is taken in at one feeding. Cattle being fed bread should have access to hay at all times to counter balance the rich feed and keep them from bloating on it. But also be careful too because once they get a taste of it, they'll literally walk all over you just to get at it!

We have two jersey milk cows that are giving us about 2 12 gallons of milk each day your question is how much grain should you be giving them each dayI have be told that the more grain the more milk?

Actually the person who told you this is only partly right. But only that. Grain is primarily used to fatten cattle for slaughter, and often doesn't have ALL of the nutrients that dairy cows need to produce milk. Grain is high in protein, energy, magnesium and phosphorus, but not in calcium and other essential nutrients needed for milk production. You need to NOT feed your cows primarily grain, but a mix of alfalfa-timothy/orchardgrass hay and grain such as barley or corn. You need to find a ration that is of high quality that meets ALL of your cows' needs. Also, it is also a good idea, if you can, to let your cows have access to pasture. The pasture mix should be of a grass-clover or grass-alfalfa mix and have it soil tested so that it can produce high-quality forage.

How much hay do jersey cows eat?

AnswerThe short answer is it depends on the size of the cow, if it's lactating, pregnant, the quality of the hay, etc.(Last answer said that they fed cows grain. Grain is NOT grass, cows are rudiments, grain lowers the PH levels of their stomach, causes bad tasting milk and lackluster health of the cow, generally used as a cheaper alternative, or to fatten a cow, in large scale production. Not recommended)
