If people drink the water they can get sick and if animals such as fish are in the polluted water, they can die. Sometimes birds dive for food in the water, and they can die too. So, yes, water can damage our environment. God meant us to take care of this world, and that is exactly what we should be doing.

Excessive burning of fossil fuels is the leading cause.
Also releasing harmful gases from the power plants in to the atmosphere also creates lot of environmental problems.
