The French citizens were poor because wats cost a lot of money and the defeat was a downfall
No it was free. That's one of the benefits that poor citizens had.
They didn't dress up. This is part of the fable. The Boston Tea Party was a protest of the lowering of the cost of the British tea by the government and the East India tea company who had gotten a bail out from the crown in 1773. The smugglers in the colonies found the Dutch tea that they sold was higher in price than the British tea, so they staged the Boston Tea Party and others in harbors in the colonies ( Hamilton was one of the largest smugglers in the colonies and a founding member of the Son's of Liberty). The cost of tea also went as far back as the Navigation Acts and the restricting of trade to and from the colonies passed from 1650-1733. Tea was also taxed in 1767 in the Townsend Acts.

Hardships on the home front fell most heavily on the poor. Flour that cost three or four cents a pound in 1861 cost thirty-five cents in 1863. The draft stripped yeoman farms of men, leaving the women and children to grow what they ate. Government agents took 10% of farm wives' as a "tax-in-kind" on agriculture. Like inflation, shortages afflicted the entire population, but the rich lost luxuries while the poor lost necessities. In the spring of 1863, bread riots broke out in dozens of cities and villages across the South.

The guns sold under the name W. Richards were low cost firearms, mainly made in Belgium, that attempted to cash in on the name of the well known English gun maker, Westley Richards. They were not related to the Westley Richards company. They were listed in the Sears Roebuck catalogues in the early 1900s. Something like buying a watch that says "ROLUX"....not the same as a ROLEX.
They ony cost 15 dollars. Who ever wear rocawear is poor or old.
