The average locomotive engineer makes $60,000 per year.

I would say $ 60,000 is a low estimate since the BLET national agreement pays around $ 2600 per every two weeks on the extraboard. That alone is $68,000 per year for an extraboard engineer. Yard enginners tend to make a little less but road engineers make a lot more. I would guess the average class 1 locomotive engineer makes $75,000 to $80,000.
