Depends on job, location, and union agreement. Across the system the average for a 1st year conductor is said to be 43K. If you work mainly in a rail yard it will usually be a little less on the road a little more. Avg 5 year + conductor is 60K. There are some areas that conductors make over 100K but these are the guys that want to work everyday. Engineers are 60-80K (you will work as a conductor usually 5 years or more before being offered engineer training). I think dispatchers start around 55-60k/ year but is a very stressful environment (think air traffic controller). There are a ton of other crafts / jobs ( ie track worker, signal maintainer, yardmaster, all kinds of management positions) that range greatly in pay. I am a conductor, maybe someone else can chime in on the other positions.
