You have failed to tell us the thickness. I have seen these in many thicknesses from 3/16 right up to 7/16.
Depends on the size of the squares, thickness, material composition. 12" x 12" Porcelain tiles weigh about 4.5 lbs.
Let us look at a tile. It is 12 inches by 12 inches. There are 12 inches in a foot. So each tile is one square foot. That would mean 110 square feet.
The sq ft per box as well as the # of tiles per box vary based on the manufacturer and the sub brand. But, generally, they tend to range from 10 to 20 per box for 12 x 12 tile. (the boxes are too heavy if there are more). Often, for 12 x 12 tile, I see 11 and 15, but it will vary based on the item you select.
Depends on the size tile you use. 12" tile on the floor I use a 1/4"x1/4" square notch trowel to spread my thin set. Larger tile require 1/4" x 3/8" square notch trowel. Wall tile usually needs a 3/16" x 5/32" V notch trowel. You will want to check the bag of thin set and with a professional in the store. Some tiles have different requirements.
A 12x12 tile is 1 sq ft. So there are 228 12x12 tiles in 228 sq ft. Depending on the dimensions (l x w) there may be fewer due to what type of tile you are referring to, and the seam thickness between each tile. IE vinyl tiles will butt up to each other with no gap, using exactly 228 tiles, but ceramic will have anywhere from 1/8" to 3/8" grouted gap and depending on the shape could be anywhere from 228 (with several being trimmed) in a square, to 222 or less if all in a straight line.
I want to put ceramic tile flooring in my kitchen but i don't know how to measure the footage. What is the formula for measuring square footage for ceramic tile?
Ceramic tiles come in various thickness, a 8 x 12 could be 1/8 if it's a wall tile or as much as 3/8 if a floor tile.

You cannot be serious about using 12 ft * 12 ft tiles! Probably one-inch spacers for tiles that are almost as large as a room.
A tile that I used for the shower backsplash weighs 6.5 pounds. The installer said they are difficult to put up since they are heavy and unwieldy so getting them flat is a trick. Probably not a job for amateurs.

You should buy 122 sq ft of tile. Since a 12" x 12" tile are 1 sq ft you will need 122.
154 floor tiles. A tile measuring 12 inches on each side is one square foot, hence 154 square feet.
12" x 12" tile is 1 square foot.
