I was just working for ChaCha. They have set up their system so that it is very very difficult to tell your pay rate, and so they can avoid minimum wage laws and talk about their pay rate in a bolstered way.
The standard ChaCha answer for What ChaCha pays is around $3-9 an hour, or around $5-7 an hour. However, their most recent updates to the pay system have drastically cut this pay. These is some math about the top earner for February's guideshare pay (the program they use now, where you work until the end of the month when they tell you what you have made). Also, being a top 25 earner for the month pays you double.

How many hours a month do you think a top earner has to work to be a top earner? In my opinion, its probably going to be close to every day for 12 hours a day, at least. Let's just go with 12 hrs a day every weekday.
12 hrs. x 5 days a week x 4 weeks a month = 240 hrs. a month.
451.905 / 240 = $1.8829 / hr. before bonuses.
903.81 / 240 = $3.7659 / hr. after top guide bonus.
We could even do an amazingly drastic cut and say the top guide is working only half of what i estimated above AND a top earner.
451.905 / 120 = $3.766 / hr. before bonuses
903.81 / 120 = $7.532 / hr. after top guide bonus.
So essentially, what I am understanding is to make even remotely near minimum wage, you have to work at light speed and get a top guide double bonus every month. Now, I understand this is just a side job, but I think its pretty upsetting that ChaCha would decide to answer $3 - 9 an hour for any inquiring guides, because there is no way that an average guide is getting anywhere above $3 / hr., that a part time guide is getting above $3 / hr. (and he would be lucky to make that because its pretty freaking hard to answer 150+ Qs an hour), or that anyone, for that matter, would get above $7 / hr easily.
My role for ChaCha was as an Expeditor, but all of the categories are supposed to pay roughly the same.
ChaCha is a complete waste of time. I have put just about 20 hours or more of work into it, and am expecting no more that $25 from this work. If you want to work for about $1 / hr. on your own time, then go for it, but honestly no matter how fast you get as a part time ChaCha guide, you will probably never be making over $3 / hr.
