It depends on the year, and also on the hospital in which they work. Not to be a stickler, but a resident cardiologist doesnt exist. First, a cardiologist must do a three year RESIDENCY in internal medicine, and then they do a FELLOWSHIP in cardiology. Fellows typically make a little more than residents (who average about $43,000 nationwide) at around $50,000 a year. Keep in mind that during this time 70-80 hour weeks are NOT uncommon!!!!! So that really boils down to a terrible hourly wage. However, after those years of training it isn't uncommon for cardiologists to make between 250k-400k. The message here is it is all about delayed gratification. Keep in mind that by the time you finish training it is a total of 13 YEARS of "school" after high school!!!

The median pay is $231,000. That's for a Non Invasive Cardiologist. A Invasive Cardiologist (open heart surgeon) makes lots more, around $400,000 at start. Actually, to expand and correct the previous answer slightly: An invasive cardiologist is NOT and open heart surgeon. An open heart surgeon is a cardiothoracic surgeon. An invasive cardiologist is either interventional or non-interventional (that does only diagnostic cardiac catheterizations) cardiologist. See....this is how information is misread and misunderstood and distributed incorrectly.

A doctor who specialises in heart diseases is known as a "Cardiologist".
When choosing a cardiologist there are many factors to take into consideration. The experience and credentials that a cardiologist has are important to consider, and it may be helpful for a person to choose a cardiologist that is specialized in their particular condition. A person can also ask their friends and family if they know of a cardiac doctor that they have had a positive experience with and make a recommendation. A person should also look for a cardiologist that is knowledgeable and how easily and accurately they can answer a patient's questions.
no you are only a resident of Texas if you are living in Texas
The median expected salary for a typical Physician - Cardiology - Non-Invasive in the United States is $239,780. == (From an M.D.) To answer your question, you must be more specific regarding what type of cardiologist, as there are different ones. However, as a group, cardiologists tend to make over $250,000 a year, with the 75th percentile around $349,000. Invasive and electrophysiological cardiologists can make much more that this. It is not unheard or, or even rare, for invasive cardiologists to make around $400,000 to $500,000. I know a cardiologist that makes more than $1,000,000 dollars a year. It really depends on the area, and the qualifications of the cardiologist.
