It depends on where you are (state) and what you are editing at which company. Many video editors live very well. If you are in Hollywood the minimum you will get paid for a movie would be $100,000 per movie. if you are editing a show (much more difficult) you can make up to like $300,000 per episode But editing shows are very hard. It all depends on which state you live in. Editors in NY metro area working in successful post production firms can make annual salaries of 70K-140K. Freelance editing in NY sees rates of 200-500 per day. I've heard of salaries in top advertising firms in LA make 1K per day. I would consider this the top of the editing pay range. Because of the recent recession, many editors and producers have been pulling double duty and are becoming "preditors". This essentially merges two jobs into one and can increase pay, but also increases workload. As in other industries, editors in bigger cities are usually making more than editors in rural areas.

Its hard to give a specific time as every project is different. If you are working in British Television, you would be likely to work for around 10 hours a day.
