Hi. I lived and worked in Seoul, South Korea for the last 7 years. Here is some information that may help... I was working in a small language school called "English Channel" in Apgujeong, South Korea for a year. The monthly salary was 2.3 million won per month if the teacher worked two Saturdays a month (2 Saturdays was the minimum). All teachers were on a split shift 7am - 11am then 6pm - 10pm weekdays and 10.30am - 6:30 on Saturdays. This school provided free housing, however the teacher needed to pay for utilities. The largest language school in Korea is called YBM Sisa. I worked for them for 5 years. That school had a pay scale from 2 - 2.4 million won base salary according to qualifications. The bonus of working for the big school is that you can get on a block shift and work relatively normal hours after a few months on split shifts. Also, there is almost always overtime available in the form of interviewing potential new students. YBM teachers pay for their accommodation and utilities. The second most prestigious language school in Korea is called Pagoda Language Institute. Unfortunately, it has a very convoluted confusing pay scale so I cannot give you the figures you need for this school. Teachers at this school pay for their accommodation and utilities. My advice for anyone thinking of working in Korea is go for the big well known schools or state schools. The smaller private schools may offer more money and better conditions BUT they frequently go bankrupt. Thanks for reading.
