It depends on the size of the aircraft and how far you fly, and how long you are renting the airplane. Previous answerer seemed to be answering how much a "charter airplane" costs, which includes a pilot.

A small (4-seat) single, piston engine airplane will run somewhere around $150 (and up) per hour wet. Which means it includes fuel, but that's without a pilot. you'll have to be a pilot or know someone that is to fly it. If you need to hire a pilot to fly it, figure at least another $50 per hour. These airplanes typically fly about 120 knots or 160 MPH. Not anywhere near as fast as a commercial airliner. So, keep that in mind. If you want something that will get close to the speeds of a commercial airliner then the previous answer is probably pretty accurate...costs are in the $1000s of dollars per hour, and depend on where you are flying to. For example, if they can't fill the airplane for a return trip, or you need them to wait for you, you'll have to pay extra.
