Activity #2: One million pennies
Making a guess based on your knowledge right now, how much do you think one million pennies would weigh?
Given that a roll of 50 pennies weighs 125 grams (without the paper), how much do one million pennies weigh? Use appropriate units, and show your work using the Unit Analysis process.
It depends on their dates.
Cents minted up to the middle of 1982 are bronze and weigh 3.11 grams
Cents minted from mid-1982 to the present are copper-plated zinc and weigh 2.5 gm.
It's not easy to tell the 1982s apart, so you'd have to decide which date range you wanted to use and eliminate all 1982 coins.
For pennies made before 1982 one 100 would weigh around .7 pounds. For pennies made 1982-to present 100 would weigh around .6 pounds.
The UK decimal penny weighs 3.56 grammes.
So 100 weigh 356 grammes, or just over 1/3 kilogram.
A pound weighs a pound unless you're in space where it seems to weigh nothing. I guess you should ask the right question which would look more like; " How many pennies in a pound?" Or better yet," How much is a pound of pennies worth?" I suggest that you skip the middle man and ask "Where is the nearest Coin Star?"
BTW it's 165 (approx. depending on wear and year of mint) per pound.
That would depend on the size of the box, and if the box was full.
One Canadian penny weighs 2.3 g, a single American penny weighs 2.5 grams.
About 1.1 pounds.
5,580 pounds
250 grams or alittle over a half pound
6.25 pounds
I have no idea
20 pounds
One penny weighs 2.5 grams, so 3,500 pennies weigh 8,750 grams.
well all i can tell you is that one penny weighs 2.5grams i was also wondering the same
One cent (minted since 1982) weighs 2.5 grams. 30,000 of them then weigh 75,000 grams, or 75 kg, or 165.4 lbs.
A nickel is exactly twice as heavy as a penny.
One penny weighs 2.5 grams, times 50,000 equals 125,000 grams, or 125 kilograms, or about 275.6 pounds.
One penny weighs 2.5 grams, so 3,500 pennies weigh 8,750 grams.
1 billion pennies would weigh 5,511,556.55 pounds. The weight of a penny is 2.5 grams
100,000 pennies
You'll have one thousand $$$$$$$
I am assuming you mean how many pennies are in a thousand dollars. To do this you simply take a thousand (1,000) and multiplying it by one hundred (pennies in a dollar, 100). By doing that, you get 100,000 pennies to equal $1,000.
One modern (post-1982) US cent weighs 2.5 grams, so 4,000 pennies weigh 10,000 grams, or 10 kg.
two thousand pounds
One cent (minted 1982-present) weighs 2.5 grams. 50 of them weigh 125 grams.
2.5 grams X 100= 250 grams
You would have one thousand dollars.
2,800,000 pounds
There are 10,000,000 (Ten Million) pennies in 100,000 dollars.
