There is no schooling requirement to be a welder. However, the more education in a particular field will give you an advantage when it comes time apply for a job. If you can take a welding or general metal working class in high school it will help, and a lot of vocational schools offer one and two year programmes. Maybe a GED is all you need for welder jobs. Unless they are looking for some college education, then you can go to school for a few years and earn your AA Degree.
