McDonalds gave an answer about this although not really answering the question itself:
At McDonald's we believe its important for everyone to help protect and preserve the environment for future generations, and were always looking for ways to reduce, reuse and recycle in our restaurants and across our whole business.
As part of this, were constantly exploring and evaluating ways to use renewable energy and materials. Any moves will be in line with European carbon reduction targets. A small number of our restaurants already use solar water heating and have wind turbines installed. We will be announcing more detail about our energy policy in 2013
I dont know the exact number but based on the amount of times I go there I see trash on the ground. I see people pick it up but there is still other trash. the amount of people that eat their there will probably be more trash. Sorry if my answer is not too good for you.

food that is thrown away
In the UK, the average annual spending on food per person is around £2,989.
You throw it in a trash bag... or if it is a food item that is able to degrade you make a compost bin and throw it in there.

No it is not polite to throw away your trash facing upwards because then the people behind you have to look at the food you trough away. And its better for kids because then they can hide all the food they didn't eat and still be polite!
aproxximately 2 million dollars in a lifetimeIt would obviously depend on your circumstances. Poverty stricken people throw comparatively less away.
