How much freon does it take to charge a 1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme?
2lbs of r-134 refrigerant 2lbs of r-134 refrigerant
It came from the factory with R12 Freon. Due to the high cost of R12, I suggest you convert it over to R134. Any good A/C shop can do this. Remember, it is illegal to release refrigerant into the atmosphere. It is also illegal to add refrigerant to a system with a leak without first repairing the leak.
Its too old and you'd most likely have to take it to a mechanic to have them drain the old freon, which is illegal to drain yourself due to bad fumes for the atmosphere and they'll replace it with I believe RA12 or something of the sort. If the pump/hose is bad they'll have to replace that too to ensure no problems with the new freon. I'm actually about to do it on my '87…
Through low pressure port Buy a kit a Wal-Mart or auto parts comes with instructions A/C Service ports are located under air filter box-remove air filter box and flex tube going to engine-be careful-there are a few sensors in the area-also when re installing flex tube be sure it in installed correctly-air leaks will cause no start/rough idle/ ect. conditions
The 1999 Oldsmobile Alero does not have Freon in the A/C system. It contains R134 and not Freon which is R12. As I am sure you do not have the proper equipment to recharge the system plus the fact it is illegal to add refrigerant to a system with a leak, until the leak is repaired, take it to a professional and have the leak repaired. You have a leak or you would not need…
A leak is the only way to loose volume of the freon charge. Freon is in a sealed system and it does not get used up. If your system is tight the freon will last forever. However a restriction in the freon lines can cause the freon pressure on the low side to look like it is low but the freon is really stacking up in the condensor.
