Freon (R12) is no longer in production, and by law has not been used in any vehicle since 1995.
A 1999 Cavalier does not use Freon as a refrigerant.

The refrigerant capacity of a 1991 Chevrolet Cavalier is 36 ounces of R-12 Freon. This is the same for all Cavaliers produced from 1986 to 1993.
First off it contains no Freon. The refrigrant used is not Freon R12 but is R134a. Freon is extremely expensive but R134a is around $7 per 12 ounce can.
