Then how is the melting at the poles going to affect the oceans when it isn't any different than ice in a glass of water...when the ice melts the liquid produced just takes place of the ice and the water in the glass does not overflow?

∙ 12y agoThere is no land at the North Pole, it's all ice. But the sea ice there is rarely more than 4 metres thick (13 feet).
In Greenland the ice at the centre is over three kilometres thick (almost 2 miles), sloping down towards the coast where the land is covered with snow up to 10 metres deep (33 feet).
