Value of any gun is based on exact make, model, and condition. For an antique firearm, you will need a hands on appraisal.
What condition is the rifle in? Any rust? Also is there a crown crest anywhere on the markings?
If you look real closely the Barrel Address marking would read "MARCH 29 1866" not 1856, The models 1866; 1873 and 1876 all had the same barrel address markings. The Model 1866 rifles & Carbines are easily distinguisable from the Model 1873 & 1876 by the BRASS receiver, the Model 1873 & 1876 were "BLUED" though from age and wear most are worn to a silvery color. Per the s/n if it's a 1866 it was mfgrd. in 1871, if a Model 1873 it was mfgrd. in 1880. It is not a Model 1876 because production never reached that s/n range.I can provide a pretty good estimate of value if you can email well lighted and clear photo's.Regards,Martymartinphoto1@verizon.net
There were three different Winchester lever-action Models with the 1866 patent... the Model 1866, the Model 1873, and the Model 1876. The 1866 patent date refers to King's patent for the side loading gate mechanism.
