Starting salaries for RN's are between $19 to $24 dollars per hour depending on where you work (hospital, nursing home, doctors office, home care, ect.) and what you specialty is. To answer your question, it depends on where the RN resides. Here in the small city in Florida where I live, an RN makes at least $32.00 per hour, IF she works at one of the local hospitals. Depending upon the shift an RN has at that hospital, the pay scale can go up to over $45.00 per hour. BUT, their pay is not generally based on a 40 hour week. Rn's working in a private practice situation make much less.

I have a cousin who has a PhD in nursing and she works in another city (a very BIG city) in Florida as a "freelance" medical expert, i.e.: she advises on legal cases for several prominent law firms.
