So, really if you can get the training and do well you can easily work your way up to a very well paying salary. Even entry level techs make better than $8 an hour unless you are completely non technical and have no abilities at all in which case another career choice probably would be best. Now if you are interested in getting into the field and have no prior experience whatsoever then you will need to get your foot in the door somewhere that does this type of service, and most places are willing to train so long as you have some technical skills. Good technicians are hard to find, the industry is strong and it's a very rewarding career choice that can even lead to more possibilities down the road in medical equipment repair.
