It's negotiated by contract.
A first contract which goes for 7-10 years basically pays the equivalent of minimum wage up front. Generally $50 to $75,000 flat.
They then own you for 10 years.
For your first tour you get a flat fee per show. Generally $500 to $1,500 for each performance as a headliner and you do 20-40 in a year.
They then charge you back for all expenses and the first album charge back can be anywhere from $500,000 to $1,000,000 and you get basically 50 cents per unit sold so you have to sell 1,000,000 units just to break even.
Now if your really up there and people like your albums A singer gets paid around 30 mil a year, just last year Miley Cyrus grossed about 82,000,000 now that is a lot of money!!
