8oz.
about 5 quarts that includes about 1 in the oil filter so 4 and 1 for the filter
Depends on the size of your engine. My '98 2.2l 4-cylinder holds right at 4 quarts of oil (including filter).
The entire system takes about 8 oz. That is spread out thru all the components. If a hose didn't blow where you would lose alot of oil and you are just replacing the compressor, I would add 3 oz to the pump during installion. Add 4 to 5 ounces of oil into the a/c compressor and then prime it on the bench before you install it.........
Five quarts on a filter change, 12 quarts if it's dry following an overhaul.
5W-30 in most climates.
factory calls for 5w-30
The oil filter on a 1999 Chevy S10 is located by the oil pan and the drive axle. The oil pan is where you will release to old oil from the 45 degree bolt on the bottom of the car. Use an OEM or better oil filter for long engine life. -Brian Mathers
The 1990 Chevrolet S 10 pickup truck 4.3 liter air-conditioner compressor can hold five pounds of Freon. Most Freon recharge kits will tell you when the Freon is full. If the system was void of any oil it would probably take 8 to 10 ounces of oil for proper lubrication. If you are only replacing the compressor, add three ounces to the suction port and be sure to turn the compressor by hand several turns clockwise after installation to disperse the oil through the pump. The refrigerant it takes to fill that system is more like 30 to 36 ounces not 5 pounds.
My first guess would be that the system has lost it's charge. When the system is empty it won't allow the comp to run. If it did run empty it would self destruct for lack of oil for lubrication.
4.5 qts with filter change.
