Keeping bats isn't reccommended. In captivity, they can't mate or roost or reproduce. Bats are also wild animals. They need tons of room to fly around.

After it's installed about 11 or 12 gigs, but you will need at least another 10-15% extra just for the OS to use in the background, just like Windows needs the same. Not to mention expansion room for other software added later.The Lion installer will fit on an 8gig flash drive.
