Assuming you have a chlorine generator and actually need to add salt, the amount is determined by the manufacturer of the device you purchased. Looking in the instruction manual will tell you what the required sodium level is for your particular unit (somewhere around 3,000 ppm is typical). Then you must test the water to see what the sodium level is currently. The difference is what needs to be made up. It takes roughly 25lbs of salt per 1,000 gallons of water to go from zero to 3,000 ppm. So you need about 112 lbs if your 4,500 gallon pool is at zero ppm now. Pool & Spa

How much sodium chloride do I add to 10000 gallon pool?

Need more data. Lets assume your adding the salt because you have a chlorine generating system. First you must determine the salt content of the pool water using either test strips or chemicals. The water should be between 2500 and 4000 PPM. Once you determined the present salt level you will know how much to add. Basic rule is 50lbs per 2000 gal. You could have just as the pool supply store or google searched it.

How much salt per gal of water for swimming pool?

If you have purchased Saline System equipment, you add regular 'salt' to the pool water. The salt (sodium chloride) is pure evaporated ocean salt - the same as you would use at the dinner table. Use 'rock' salt, but make sure it is sodium chloride and not potassium chloride (which is sold for some types of water softeners). Minimum salinty varies with the brand of saline system equipment, but is usually in the 3000-4000ppm range. 3000ppm is the same as 0.3%, by weight. Multply gallons x 8.33 to get weight of water in pounds, then x 0.003 to get pounds of salt.

What do you do if the pH is too high in the pool with a saltwater system?

Add muriatic acid. You could take a water sample to a pool store, and they will tell you how much to add. Or add 1/4 gal each day until the pH drops to 7.4-7.5. 7.5 is ideal pH for salt water systems.
