A residential smoke alarm must be at least 75 dBA, or 15 dBA above average ambient sound (whichever is greater), measured at pillow location, meaning that it may be much louder at the source.
In a "high ambient noise area" it must be 110 dBA.
This all depends on the type of smoke alarm you have. here are a few examples:
Ionization 2.6â€"5.0% obs/m (0.8â€"1.5% obs/ft)
Photoelectric 6.5â€"13.0% obs/m (2â€"4% obs/ft)
Beam 3% obs/m (0.9% obs/ft)[citation needed]
Aspirating 0.005â€"20.5% obs/m (0.0015â€"6.25% obs/ft)
Laser 0.06â€"6.41% obs/m (0.02â€"2.0% obs/ft)
Any type of smoke, steam or particles denser than air will set off a smoke alarm. This means that smoke emitted from the incense will set off a smoke alarm when in range of the detector.
fix it
Smoke alarm may go off when it's not smokey inside because tiny, weak radioactive material which ionizes the air triggers the false alarm by sensing invisible smoke.
Not unless it is smoked in the vicinity of a smoke detector.
Smoke alarms are hung so that if there is a fire you will know it. If toast is smoking then the alarm will detect it.
you can get a towel and start waving it in front of the alarm and keep on doing it until the fire alarm stops
Actually steam can set it off. According to the USFA website, you should not mount a smoke alarm within 3 feet of a bathroom or kitchen to avoid this possibility. Apparently, smoke alarms tend to be more sensitive when the house is colder, so an open window and a smoke alarm close to the bathroom could result in it going off. http://www.usfa.dhs.gov/downloads/pyfff/smkalarm.html
A smoke alarm should never be turned off. If your smoke detector is not working correctly, you can start by taking a vacuum or a can of compressed air and clean any dust or dirt from inside the unit. If cleaning the unit does not help then you will need to have it replaced or repaired.
press onThere are two kinds of smoke detectors. 1. When a fire burns, it releases smoke. The smoke detector senses the smoke. 2. A fire is very hot. The detector feels the heat. A smoke detector will then either set off an alarm, or it will turn on the sprinklers.
Smoke detectors detect smoke by not detecting it. They sense not the smoke, but the oxygen levels surrounding it. when the oxygen levels drop, or when smoke replaces the oxygen, the alarm goes off.
The smoke/fire alarm will go off or you will see smoke. You could also see the fire.
They are devices that are made to sense changes in heat (heat alarm/fire alarm) which then activated either self sounders or complex alarm systems Smoke alarms detect chemical changes and as like heat set off either internal sounders or complex alarm networks
