This is assumed to be in reference to coke as a soda. As irony would have it, it takes a lot of water to make a bottle of coke. As much as 132 gallons of water is needed to make a 2-liter bottle of soda.

The "water footprint" of coke depends on what you include. Potential items include the actual water in the coke, the water required for growing the various sugars and flavourings of the contents, the water associated with the manufacture of the plastic or metal container and the water required to mine or produce the raw materials for the container. In addition there is a significant amount of water used by manufacturing processes for cooling, washing, steam generation and other related industrial processes.

The average coca cola recipe contains 90% water. So however much coca cola you are looking at you would take 90% of that amount and attribute it towards water.
