The problem here lies with the question. Landscape mulch is not measured by the yard it is measured by cubic yard. There is nothing linear about mulch. A common standard suggests that 1 cubic yard of mulch will cover about 100 sq ft of landscape 2-4 inches thick.

It depends on how deep you want your mulch to be. I usually shoot for 3 inches, in which case 1 cubic yard will cover 108 square feet (1 yard =27 cubic feet or 27 square feet to a depth of 1 foot. Divide 12 by your desired depth in inches and multiply by 27)
