Costs for canine immunizations vary greatly across cities, counties and states. You should call local vets to get a better idea of real dollars and cents costs. A general guideline, is that in many areas, Veterinarians don't have to give the shot, and will have their Nurses and Aides do them. Generally when a Nurse or Aide does the shot, the fee is less, because the doctor did not have to spend time in with the patient. Additionally you should look to your local animal shelter, to find out if they are working on a rabies vaccination clinic any time soon, as they are even less expensive when they are giving enmasse rather than one at a time. Asside from the local shelter, check with local breed and rescue groups for any upcoming events. Your main concerns are low cost, and getting a proper certificate so that you can prove the vacinnation. In general expect to pay 10 to 50 dollars. The high end would include being physically seen by a licensed veterinarian (the doctor) and the low end would be the mass innoculation at an event.

If you live in an area where either the township or animal shelter offers a rabies vaccine clinic, the cost can range from free, to just a few dollars. Some larger pet stores also offer dog vaccines for low cost. Contact your local town hall, animal shelter, PetSmart, or PetCo to see when (or if) they offer vaccines.

These days, Rabies is usually given once every three years. Prices vary from vet office to vet office, depending on where you live. You'd need to call a couple of vet offices to see what they charge in your area.

Do adult dogs need rabies shot?

It all depends on where or who you got it from. If you got it as a puppy from a friend or family member, call them and ask them if they ever got the dog their rabie shot as a puppy. If you found it, or you adopted it from the pound or found it near your home, it would be safe to take the dog to get a shot just to be safe.

Can giving a rabie shot to a nursing dog kill the puppy?

The Rabies vaccine is a killed virus and would be safe to give to your lactating female. It would not be passed on into the milk. Check with your Veterinarian since he or she is the only one that can give the Rabies vaccine.

Can you give your dog the dhpp vaccine at the same time as the rabie shot?

Yes you can but the Rabies vaccination has to be given by a Veterinarian. It is a killed virus and the DHLP/Parvo are from killed or modified live viruses. Perfectly safe but have your Veterinarian do the vaccinations.

What shot makes a dog mean?

There are no vaccinations that would make a dog mean. A shot from a gun hitting the dog might make it mean if it did not kill it outright but there would a lot of suffering too and I am sure you don't want that. Do you want your dog to be mean? If you do then owning a pet is not for you and I suggest you find a much better home for him or her. Maybe you are wondering why your dog got mean? Is that it? Then please rephrase your question.

Does a dog have to have his rabie tag on his collar?

Yes. Either on a dog collar or dog harness. Not all dog harnesses have a front 'd' or 'O' ring. The EzyDog Quickfit harness is a dog harness with a front ring for rabies and ID tags.

How do you keep yourself from getting rabies?

Stay away from any wild animals.Even if a neighbor or friend has a pet dog or cat ask if they have it's rabie shot yet if no then stay away from the animal until they do. If yes then the animal is probably safe from rabies. If you get rabies then go to a doctor and they have a pill or needle for it! You are sure to be fine! What are the chances of gettin rabies ?
