Here are the steps to making a mummy. 1. Wash the body in the Nile River, then shave it and bring it to a priest for the embalming. 2. Push a hook up the body's nose and brake up the brain to a pulp. The pulp is poured into a bowl. 3. Once the bowl of brain-remains is in a secure spot cut into the body and take out the liver, stomach, lungs, and intestine. Put the organs into separate jars. Each jar replicates the faces of Egyptian gods, the gods are said to protect the organs. 4. Put salt on the body for forty days to prevent rotting. 5. Apply make-up to the body so they look proper for the gods. 6. Place oil in the wounds then resin. 7. Wrap the body in linen. 8. Place a burial mask on the body and add a nametag. 9. Lay the body in a sarcophagus.

Even ordinary citizens are mummified... also, mummies cannot be only applied to egyptians. Bog mummies are the best preserved mummies out there--even better than Egyptian mummies because with bogs, we can easily recreate how the person looks like or even what the person last ate before he/she died. It's pretty cool! check it out!
the mummies were important because it let the egyptians believe that whom they mummified (often Pharoahs or other rulers) would be going to the after life
you would probebly weigh about twice your weight because if the mummies from Egypt got mummified then yes they would be about half of your weight. :-]
