Empress was a sort of code-name or service mark of the Canadian Pacific steamship line, which was a subsidiary of the CP railroad. There were several Empress class ships ( ocean liners of full size_ and all had the title- Empress of- then a blank. For example Empress of Russia ( yes!) on the short-haul service, the CP marine department had coastal vessels about the tonnage of a small destroyer and these were styled Princesses. There was a Princess Louise. All of these vessels are long since obsolete- but one of the Princess Boats had been converted to a restaurant or Night Club and as such is tied up- or was in California. so it goes.
The plural possessive form of "empresses" is "empresses'."
