I'm not in Arkansas but rather in Indiana. We've got variable soil up-here from really amazing to just-OK. Last year I watered my tomato-plants every day. The small newly-planted seedlings with just a bit of water. But then once they matured, I watered heavy and every-day. This turned-out to be a mistake as the vast majority of my early-season tomatoes developed a bad-case of blossom-end-rot and I had to chuck them into the dumpster at the duplex-complex where I live. The later season tomatoes turned out a bit better, and I ate fresh tomatoes and got to freeze 20 to 30 lbs. of pureed (sp?) tomatoes to be used in Indian dishes that I like to cook...I cook-up a lot of chicken-curry.

This year I have planted a lot of Heirloom tomatoes. Yeah, I planted a some of the popular "Walmart" variety-seedlings like "Early-Girl", and "Big Boy". But I got some seeds from a website called "The New Hope Seed Company" called Marriana's Peace (which apparently originate from a girl who barely escaped Hitler's gas Chambers and suvived to get seeds from her father who crossed who-knows-what with who-knows-what.) Then I also planted several Red Brandywine tomatoes. Then I planted several "Mortage-Lfter" tomatoes, which came from a guy nicknamed "Raidator Charlie" and created an Heirloom variety that came from crossing some very-large European-Herlooms. Word is that the average Mortgage Lifter is about two-and-a-half pounds....

Anyhow, to the question. Last year watering-every day was too much. I'm trying to water every-OTHER day this year. One tomato-patch in front of my duplex has really sandy-white soil. Seems to need more water because it dries out faster. On the side of my duplex, the soil is really rich and darker. IT seems to need less often but deeper waterings. There I skip to every-3 days once-in-a-while. Hope this helps.

Most of the water is in the northern part of the state, which gets much more rain and snow.
