A timing chain does not need to be replaced. Sometimes they can go bad and will make noise, or can get a bad link, requiring replacement. Timing BELTS require periodic replacement because they are rubber and wear out over time. Chains are good until they experience mechanical breakdown due to excessive wear.

as an owner of an lx, i have a timing chain which doesn't need replacing

no it doesnt, it has a timing chain. i doesnt need replacing as often as belt.

It doesn't have one. It uses a timing chain that does not need replacing

It has a timing chain which if different--it does not need replacing at 100K like a belt!

The Saturn sl2 does not have a timing belt, it has a timing chain. And under most conditions it does not need replacing.

A Timing Chain. If the car is Serviced regularly, the chain won't need replacing for a good few years...

It has a timing chain that should last the life of the engine. However if it is noisy then it may very well need replacing. Have it inspected.

Unless a timing chain is making a noise or has jumped a tooth, they need not be replaced. Timing belts need changing according to the specs spelled out in the owner's manual.

The Pontiac Aztek has a chain which will last the life of the engine and should never need replacing until the engine is overhauled.

A timing chain will normally last the life of the engine and is replaced during a complete engine rebuild.

The Echo doesn't have a timing belt. It has a timing chain, and this chain will last a very long time. Toyota doesn't recommend replacing it (as a preventative or maintenance measure) unless or until you have problems.

You never need to replace the timing chain if the engin use timing chain(not timing belt).

There is no scheduled maintenance on replacing the chain. It will normally last until the engine needs an overhaul. However if it starts making noise, and you cannot keep the engine timed, the chain may need replacing.

A timing chain is not a maintenance item that needs replacing at a set time or mileage. You replace it when a major overhaul is done. It will normally last until that is necessary. If you hear it making noise or the engine performs poorly or you can't keep the engine in time, then it may need replacing.

A timing chain is something that will normally last until the engine needs an overhaul. It is starts making a noise, or you cannot keep the engine timed, it may need replacing. Chain noise, hard to time, are two symptoms. If it has over 150,000 miles on it then it may very well need replacing.

a timing belt needs maintenance, but a chain does not.

you don't need to replace the timing chain until it becomes noisy

You are correct that the SL2 uses a timing chain. However, since it uses a timing chain it does not need to be replaced as does the timing BELT. In general, a timing chain should last the life of the engine.
