I had a cat that was 20 years old. She had been a barn kitten and the runt of the litter and quite sick when the person gave her to me. I took great care of her and cuddled her constantly. At first she just rejected being cuddled, but with gentle and persistent tries several times a day for a couple of weeks she loved being held. Animals are incredible creatures and dogs/cats with much love, good food and vet care as well as play time for the cats or walking your dog every day can live a very long time. I also had 2 dogs that lived to be almost 20 in human years. Like people it also depends on the gene pool the pet came from. I still say love conquers all, because cats and dogs (pigs, horses, etc. are included in this as well) are extremely loyal and loving to their owners if treated well and can live to be a ripe old age.

I always have to have a giggle within myself when I can have the odd rough day and I look at the loyal devotion in my pets eyes and say the phrase, "The more I am getting to know people, the more I love my pets." In some ways it's the truth because animals don't lie, cheat or become disloyal to you. They are your best buddies. It is also a fact that more young people and especially young men or women who have been married and divorced have decided to own a good pet and enjoy this relationship first and foremost. Animals in our lives really round us out as a human being and bring the very best out in us. Good luck with your cat.

Oh yes, I use IAMS wet/dry food for my cat. It's a healthy product. I feed my dog and cat twice a day (see directions on the tin and package) as to how much to give them. Feeding them twice a day will stop acidity in their stomachs. So feed them when you have breakfast and then at your dinnertime and that way you won't forget to feed them. Be sure you give an hour a day (can be broken up) or several cuddles at night to your pet and you'll have that little cat of yours for many years to come.

My cat is 16 1/2 years old. When I took her for her annual check-up a month ago, the vet said she was in excellent shape for her age and very healthy.

I agree with the first answer above. Four very important things (in my opinion) to helping your cat live a long, healthy life are 1) Good quality food (upon recommendation from my vet, I feed my cat Science Diet senior hairball formula), 2) Lots and lots of love and affection (you'll get lots more back then you'll ever give), 3) Keep lots of fresh water available ... it's as important for animals as it is for humans, and 4) Don't let your cat outside ... statistics show that indoor cats live longer and overall are healthier than outdoor cats.

You can't make a cat grow to 12 years old, the only thing that you can do is feed it well give it a place to sleep, somewhere to go poo poo and most importantly give it LOVE!

Answer

The cat needs to be in a good condition, so no smoking, no beating it up, no letting it roam free outside if he wasn't shot (or anything to prevent diseases) and do not let coyotes kill it. Once my cat got in a fight with a coyote, but he survived; he only got a few bites on his ears but he's still with me, on my lap!:)

Answer

You cant force a cat to live longer, but if you treat it kindly, then it will be more happy. my cat is only 7 1/2 but he's not exactly average weight, but he's still going strong. :)

The best thing you can do to keep your cat alive for as long as possible, is to feed your cat really good, healthy food. Make sure to keep up on vet visits, don't use your cat for breeding (if its a female) getting it spayed/nurtured is also a good idea. Also, keep your cat in doors at all times. It's been proven that indoor cats live a longer, healthier life.

you can make any pet live longer by keeping them healthy.here are a few tips:

1.feed them the right amount of food no over or under feeding.

2.feed them healthy foods with little fats and sugars.

3.exercise them, take them for a walk, play with them...

4.keep them happy

5.take them to the vet for checkups at LEAST 2 times a year.

having a pet is great company but it requires money and work. you should think about the money and supplies needed for a pet before buying one.

Feed it high-quality food (NOT supermarket brands like Friskies, Tender Vittles, 9 Lives, Purina, etc.). For more information on high-quality versus low-quality ("supermarket") brands, see the Related Question below.

Proper medical care is also essential. The cat should have a full checkup every year, and dental cleanings every few years (at your vet's recommendation). You should follow all of your vet's instructions in regards to proper care, medications, medical procedures and follow-up appointments.

Additionally, indoor cats typically live much longer than outdoor cats. Letting your cat roam freely outdoors puts it at risk for getting hit by cars and bicycles, being tortured or killed by neighborhood psychopaths, catching diseases from other animals, and being mortally wounded by other animals. If you must let your cat outside, then make sure it cannot get off of your property.

The cat's home environment should also be clean and sanitary. The litter box should be changed regularly, and the home should be free of mold, dirt, and excess dust. If you smoke, then try not to smoke in your home, or at least keep the home well-ventilated.

Keep in mind that no matter how great a parent you are to your cat, it can still get sick and die at an early age. Cats can come down with serious illnesses such as feline leukemia, regardless of how well-cared for they are. It is not necessarily your fault if your cat dies young. However, if you give your cat the best care possible, you can minimize these risks.

Can humans live to be 100?

I'd say no. It has never been done before. Cats normally live to be 9-15. If a cat were 100 in human years than in cat years they would be about 420 years old, which is not even possible for a human.

Yes. A cat that is 15 years old would be around 80 years old in human years. Some cats live to be 17 or 18 years old (85 to 90 in human years), or even longer.
