It is a common misconception that Link from The Wind Waker is 16 because Link in Ocarina of Time became the Hero of Time at 16. However, Link in The Wind Waker starts his quest at the age that the Hero of Time starts his quest, which is at 9 years. However, because of the hundreds of years that passed between Ocarina of Time and The Wind Waker, it is possible that Link in The Wind Waker started as late as 12 due to possible information corruption or loss over the years. Assuming that no information has been corrupted, Link most likely started his quest at 9.
