Chinese writings can track back to about 1300 B.C. as their ancestor. It developped into a couple different system, but was artificially unified around 221 B.C. In the 2 hundred years after that it was slowly simplified, or complexed to fit the aesthedics; and remained like that for thousands of years until the modern simplification by the Communists.
