Separate the mom and the babies for numerous hours (maybe 3 starting out) then put them back together. Later on (2 weeks) start separating them for 8 hours. About 2 weeks later take them away from their mommy overnight and see how they do If they whine alot, put them back together and start from the 8 hour mark. Once they stop whining, they are weened.
They reach sexual maturity at around 18 months usually, have their first heat at as young as 6 months and are best to be bred on their 3rd or 4th heat for the first time, to ensure a safe and successful birth.
The breed has been around since the late 1800's when Shepherd's bred the for herding and guarding flock.
Its best to wait until the 2nd heat with any kind of dog.
They should be at least one year old before you start breeding with them.

Don't add another German Shepard. Male or female, they will fight. Maybe add a smaller dog.
The breed of Dog most commonly used as a sheepdog in the UK is the Border Collie. In Australia it is the Australian Shepherd, Australian Kelpie and the Australian Cattle Dog. Some countries also use Smooth Collies, Old English Sheepdogs, German Shepherd-type Dogs and Collie Crossbreds.

German Shepherds can live commonly from 10-12 years. This is common if the dog is purebred. If it is not a purebred German Shepherd, then the dog may live shorter or longer. If you need more help, I would suggest purchasing The Dog Breed Bible by D. Caroline Colie, Ph. D. This book has helped me for years now.
Stay away from negative dogs towards others such as Presa Canaria's and Cane Corso's and maybe Akita's and Rotweilers but another Lab or Shepherd or even a mix would work well :)
Australian cattledog mix, possibly with catahoula leopard dog.
A German Shepherd puppy should have a mix and hard and wet dog food. One scoop of them mixed together twice or three times a day will suffice.
You should NOT breed from your Australian Shepherd until it has had at least three seasons/heat cycles. Many breeders agree that the absolute best age to breed from a female is three years old, however, this is not necessary. You can breed responsibly from a Dog once it has had three seasons.
In general German Shepherds are a one owner type of dog. However, if your German Shepherd gets along well with other dogs and appears docile then put your German Shepherd on a leash and let the new pup have the freedom, but be sure to keep the pup away from your dog. Watch the reactions from your German Shepherd. You could try this with a friends dog coming into your home to see how your dog reacts before purchasing another dog. "Never' pay all of your attention to the pup no matter how cute they are. Always go to your German Shepherd first. It's a pecking order. German Shepherd or any other breeds, there are individual personalities amongst dogs and some can be very patient with a pup, while others can be jealous and some even aggressive and harm the pup.
