You can start after there are 2 months old and it's mainly to get them use to it. I just nipped off the little points of their nails (just a tiny bit off the ends) followed by lots of praise and a treat. As they get older they will be much more behaved while you do this process. If their nails are dark it's best to get the vets to do it. Some will do it for nothing and so will a dog groomer. When you just cut the tips of the dog's nails off this will make the nail recede. Also walking on gravel, cement, etc., will help keep their nails filed down.
You really should start trimming your dog's nails as early as possible -- even tiny puppies can have their nails trimmed, and their mother will be very thankful for it!
The younger you start getting your dog used to being groomed, including having its nails clipped and its ears cleaned, the better. Even if you take just a tiny bit of nail off with a good sharp pair of trimmers once a week or every couple of weeks, this will help your dog become used to it and make the process so much easier when the dog is older and ready to put up a fuss about it. Make it very matter of fact and be as calm as possible, then reward the puppy with lots of praise, a treat, and a little cuddling or playtime afterwards to help them realize grooming is a normal part of life.
Very young puppies with tiny nails can have their nails trimmed with small cat-claw scissors. The most important thing is to be sure your trimmers are sharp so they make a clean cut instead of crushing the nail and causing pain.
Avoid cutting the "quick" by checking for its location -- you'll see it as a pinkish vein inside light colored nails. If you are nervous about cutting dark nails, just take the very tips off -- the hooked part -- because the quick is normally inside the thicker part of the nail. Better to take off too little to start than to cut off too much!
If you should accidentally cut the quick, don't panic -- just give the puppy a hug and put some styptic powder ("Quick stop," available at pet supply stores, should be included in your pet's grooming or first aid kit), or even a bit of plain flour or corn starch on the tip of the nail to cover the drop of blood; press it with your finger for a minute or two and all will be well. Don't make a big deal of it, just be more careful the next time.
The more confident and calm you are about grooming your pet, the more it will accept this as a normal procedure, and the easier it will be when he is older.
Well owners of the grooming salon wait until the puppy is 8 months before its first groom!! so it kinda depends on when you think is the right time if this answer didnt help you can always call the local animal clinac or groomer!!!
There is no minimum age for when you can clip a puppies nails. In fact, the sooner you can start the better! Just make sure that you are careful not to scare the puppy or cut the quick. The best time to do it is when they a tired and relaxed. Make it a good experience with lots of praise and good treats. Puppies do tend to have a short attention span, so don't be surprised if you cant get them all done in one sitting. By starting it young, ey will get used to having their nails clipped and will be much less likely to have problems with it when they get older.
Depends on the dog breed. But on average once a month.
A kitten's nails can be cut at any age as long as there is something to cut. Nailcutting is a procedure which is easy to learn however, and it is cheaper to learn to do it yourself.
Chis are never too young to have their nails clipped. In fact you should start when they're young so they get used to the process.
It should be flush with the 45 degree line extending from the bottom of the pad.
No! That's way too early.
Well, they should always be short for safety reason. But if you should let them grow, cut them after they before they become sharp enough to cut. (and for the safety of your pet you should file its nails)
mid-long
If you're nail starts to grow over your skin or one a week it all depends on the speed your nails grow at.
That depends on the length of the nails and how much it hurts when they stand.
acrylic nails are like fake nails, (you would probably know,) but, you can have any sized nails.
Yes, dogs do have paws, just like most of all the other warmblooded mammals! Their paws contain 5 fingers with long nails on them. The "long nails" are called, 'claws'. I hope this answered your question!
most dogs do
No.
My dog's toenails are not black. They are white. Not all dogs have black toenails. Not sure what made you think that but..........you are mistaken.
