Any age actually. In my middle school, I've found out people had already started texting at age 9 or 10. Depends on the parent though. My parents wouldn't allow texting until I was in 7th Grade
I think that it all depends on the person and the parents, but if you have a responsible child then I think that it is appropriate to get them a phone at 12 or 13. If your child isn't mature, then I would say 14 or 15. :)
Your kids shouldn't be texting until they are at dating age, don't let your kids start texting at an age before 16 because then they will start to be more independent from your family.
