Poe was 18 when he first published his writing in 1827. However, he was only about 17 when he wrote his first poem, "O, Tempora, O, Mores" which was not published during his lifetime. In late 1824 while nearing the age of 16, Poe wrote the following lines:

It is now one of the rarest and most valuable books ever printed with only about 12 copies known to exist.
