There is no place for blame or judgment at this point. It is best to be there for support and listen they will feel bad enough towards themselves and the relapse itself they just need someone to be there for them. Go for a walk and a coffee and talk, listen and let them vent - one day at a time.

Is it bad to relapse from alcohol recovery?

It is quite expected to relapse after recovery from using alcohol daily in destructive doses and patterns. A relapse prevention program is almost always attached to recovery from first stage of intoxication/dependence. AA meetings are aware of that inevitable risk: hence the need to find a "home" group and to go daily as well as having a mentor. Another important issue is AlAnon: families of alcoholics also require assistance after the long term co-dependence and harm that may have been caused. False dichotomous thinking also may be addressed: bad/good, cure/ill, right/wrong.....etc Since nothing is in black and white, such dichotomies are either useless or harmful in some instances. They are not compatible with health. To be in relapse is using alcohol and, for an alcoholic, using is dangerous and the user tends to spiral downward. However, if the person in relapse immediately seeks help, professional help or, in some cases, from a mentor such as another alcoholic in solid recovery, there is an opportunity to learn. Relapse is a step towards recovery if the person does seek help and learns what triggered the relapse and how to get back into a structure that works. Relapse is part of the disease and if you don't learn from relapse, it's not compatible with recovery. If you do learn from it, then each relapse is one step closer to recovery. Alcoholics fool themselves often, using whatever language of self-talk will allow them to use, so seeking professional help out-patient or in-patient at a treatment center for each relapse is advisable in order to really learn the lesson.

Can Morphine relapse a Alcoholic?

Yes in some individuals it can. Morphine is an addictive drug, but given for pain it's regulated. However, alcohol is also addictive to some individuals so if the person is depressed after surgery (this can happen often) depending on the type of surgery the alcoholic may feel they need the alcohol for pain.
