I think you are confused about your terms.
A topic sentence is the main idea of a paragraph. It is usually the first sentence of the paragraph and makes a statement about some topic. The rest of the paragraph explains the topic sentence or gives examples of the topic sentence.
Yes. You have to have it relate otherwise you are out in left field on your topic. The main thing you need to ask yourself is " what is the purpose ?" Of what you have written. If you can't answer that then you have a problem. The conclusion ties the work together.

First you need a topic sentence. In a topic sentence you should have a detailed hooking sentence(to keep the reader). Then mention your topic and what you will be talking about, and a conclusion sentence. For the fat juicy meat in the middle of your piece you will need 3 paragraphs (at the minimum) about your experience. Last but not least you need a conclusion paragraph. In a conclusion paragraph you should have a hook sentence and mention the main ideas. Don't forget to add lots of detail.

If you had to agree or disagree with a statement in this essay you would state that in your intro. The body paragraph contains a topic sentence as well, and it provides 3-4 supporting details. The conclusion sums it all up in a couple of sentences but should not state anything new. Basically, its rewording your intro.
